Celebrating the Magic of the Cape Fear Kite Festival

When the Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce acquired the Cape Fear Kite Festival from the dedicated kite flying aficionados, Mike and Judy Agner, we were not just taking on an event, but an institution. Our heartbeats raced with excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to elevate what was already an awe-inspiring spectacle. The festival’s canvas, painted with the magnificent kites from enthusiasts across the spectrum, had always been a vision to behold.

But we dreamed bigger.

Diving deep into the kaleidoscopic world of kite flying, we unearthed hidden gems of the community and showcased them to the world. The festival was not just about flying kites but celebrating the culture and passion behind it. The mesmerizing, illuminated Night Fly at the Marriott was a testament to our endeavors. Then, with two action-packed days at the Fort Fisher State Park, we ensured the festivities reached a crescendo that was both vibrant and inclusive.

The turnout? Tens of thousands. The waves of visitors were a testament to our meticulous planning, top-notch coordination, and strategic marketing. However, while we rejoiced in our success, it was the indelible mark that the festival left on our hearts that mattered most.

The Cape Fear Kite Festival wasn't just another event for us; it was a labor of love. Every gust of wind that lifted a kite also lifted our spirits. And in that shared joy, we found our reward - memories and emotions that are, truly, priceless.
